How I Became A Volunteer: My Javul.org Story[edit | edit source]
All my life (or probably on the time I started becoming aware of what's happening around the world), I've been wanting to help improve the lives of my family and the people around the world who are suffering from hunger, depression and other catastrophe. My priorities are the children because they are our future (as they said), and the old because they build the present. We are able to connect to different parts of the world and live better than the last decades because of the previous generations. There are negative effects from the actions of the older generations, but considering the life most of the newer generations have today, we must be thankful, and should take care of them as they grow older. Life is a cycle and we must not stop thinking of ways to improve the lives of all.
I started a blog called Aimporper. The name is a combination of English and Tagalog words 'aim' and 'impormer'. The tagline, "Aims to inform" says everything about the purpose of the blog. I believed I could help by writing content based on facts, but I think my blog is not the solution to the problems of the world. Many are struggling from climate change and suffering from hunger due to corruption. Many problems are arising as time goes by that lead to the creation of non-profit Organizations to focus on specific problems that affects the whole world, but the struggle is continuing.
I was exploring the digital world (specifically cryptocurrency) when an idea popped up, "Why not create a mobile app or a website (open to the public) where organizations can assign tasks (simple or complex) to individuals around the world, use codings to track their performance, and reward them with cryptocurrency?” Then a few days later, I found a post in Upwork.
I was reluctant to bid at first because I was not qualified, but as I read the job description thoroughly and explored the Javul wikis, I was astonished. It seemed like my thoughts about helping the world is written there. I thought that job posting was really for me so I hurried to bid. Thankfully, I received a reply from Javul's founder (Ed), but it was not yet certain because he will still wait for other bidders in a week.
My hope in getting the job vanished. Maybe it's not really the job for me so I continued my other plans. Then a few days later, I received an email from Upwork (where I found the job posting). It was Ed accepting my bid. Usually, I read about the job again (and again) when a question to accept a job pops up, but this time, there was no hesitation. I automatically accepted the contract.
There was an intention to earn when I accepted the job, but as I learned more about the purpose of the site, I decided to (just) volunteer. I believe Javul was created and is continually improved for the progress of everyone. If the government from all nations will help us, the problems the world is facing (and will face) will certainly be resolved with the cooperation of every capable individual around the world.
What I've Done (so far)[edit | edit source]
